MEETING: Fix the Kingston Road Cycle Lane
Cllrs James Giles and Yvonne Tracey are urging residents to join them in demanding a meaningful fix to the Kingston Road Cycle Lane.
In a report coming to the New Malden Neighbourhood Committee on 26th January 2023 (7.30pm at Richard Challoner School), the Lib Dem-run Council outlined the steps they intend to take to ‘fix’ the cycle lane, which include:
❌ MORE bollards on the Kingston Road, without any consideration of curb-height segregation
❌ Cars STILL allowed to park in the cycle lane on Kingston Road
❌ NO reinstatement of the right-hand filter lane into South Lane West, instead painting a cash-cow box junction for drivers headed toward Kingston at the junction
Councillor James Giles will table a motion for debate at the meeting, which can be found HERE (link to follow).
In it, he will say:
✅ The bollards/wands that are currently in place aren’t working well, and that a different segregation (curb-height so cars can bump over if needed to make way for emergency services) would be better.
✅ Parking in the cycle lane completely defeated the point of the lane, and this needed to be removed urgently.
✅ Most importantly, the right-hand filter lane into South Lane West needs to be reinstated.
